Over-salted gravy: what to do and how to fix the dish?
If the dish for some reason failed - it is not a reason to worry. When making gravy, lumps can form, it turns out too thick or liquid. But the worst thing for the hostess is to over-salt the food. It seems that all the work goes to waste. But it's not. A few culinary tips can help save gravy from the trash can, and the hostess from wasting time at the stove.
What to do if you over-salt the gravy?
If the hostess over-salted, you can use "grandma's" way. It is enough to put raw potatoes in the dish and boil it for 15 minutes. During this time, the potatoes will absorb excess salt.
Clean boiled water will help to save over-salted gravy. It's enough to add a couple of spoons and bring to a boil. If the gravy is still salty, repeat the procedure. This will not only get rid of excess salt, but also reveal the taste.
Useful tip! If the gravy becomes runny, add a little flour.
There are a few other ways to make a tasty sauce out of an over-salted gravy:
- Don't salt the side dish. Make rice, potatoes, or pasta unleavened.
- Sour cream or heavy cream will soften the taste of the gravy. The main thing is to combine the dish with dairy products.
- Add a couple of spoonfuls of flour to the gravy, stir well and simmer over low heat until it boils. After that, add boiling water and mix thoroughly, preferably with a whisk, so that there are no lumps.
- Add lots of herbs to the dish. For example, parsley. It will absorb the salt. After cooking, remove the herbs.
- Acid will neutralize the salt. Therefore, you can add a few drops of lemon juice to the gravy.
- Sugar or honey will help to correct the over-salt. Sweetness will "block out" the salt. If there are carrots in the gravy, you can add more.
Such simple ways will save the dish and will not force the hostess to cook it again.
